Illustration Friday: "Brave"
Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 12:35AM Hey everyone! Illustration Friday (www.illustrationfriday.com) is a website that posts weekly challenges for artists. Every week, the website posts a different word that artists can use as a launching point for their own interpretation. This week's theme was 'brave,' so with baseball season soon upon us, I thought this picture might be appropriate. It's also good practice because I need to work on my kid characters. The picture was done in Photosop with a chalky brush (or at least that's what I call it). As always, advice is always appreciated! And have a great end of the week everyone!
And I think I might just have to get a Phillies hat on him when I get the time!

As a baseball fan (though of another team!) I was hoping someone would do a Braves illustration this week. Nice work on this guy. He's got that slightly awed childlike enthusiasm to be at the ballpark. And I love the light-colored outlines you've worked in here in different places.
I love the use of light in your painting. Absolutely beautiful!
But more than the technique, I love how you can feel the little boy's sense of wonder.
